Pecha Kucha night, what is it?

Basically it’s a gathering of young graphic designers and artists etc to meet, network, and show their creative work in public. Their works can be easily and informally shown, without having to rent a gallery or chat up a magazine editor.

The key to Pecha Kucha Night is its patented system for keeping individuals presentations to fixed time frame. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each - giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show.

It started in 2003 and is now in over 80 cities around the world.

This is great stuff. Identifying a problem or several problems (in this case, no forum for gaining recognition of artwork or designs to industry leaders, and stopping presentations from dragging on and on) and giving a simple solution. It’s no wonder it’s taken off around the world.

Well it’s been one and a quarter years since I went to World Internet Summit in Sydney March 2006.

This weekend I’m at the Internet Mastery Secrets Conference in Brisbane (my home town).

I got a lot out of World Internet Summit, and I met some great people, that through my video roundup of the event have remembered me when I met them again at this event.

I am also getting a heap of gold nuggets out of Internet Mastery Secrets.

This is because I have 2 software products I currently market online now.

Script Smart - my automated (you don’t need to be a programmer) website script generator toolbox for making your sales letter promotions more profitable simply by using offline techniques that have been in use for 50+ years, brought online.

and

Affiliate Page Pro - my automated (don’t need a programmer) affiliate tools page generator for online product owners that don’t own membership software like Butterfly Marketing and want to boost their profits by providing their affiliates all the necessary promotional tools, and also get them onto your email list to keep in contact with them.

I am going to go over all my notes and there is going to be a heap of changes to both my products and my hosting business.

I can’t wait to show you what I’m going to roll out, and it’s very exciting, since I’m taking what I’ve done to the next level. But I would never be able to do this, if I didn’t put the action in place after I left the World Internet Summit.

I plan on attending at least 1 conference every year to keep me motivated and pick up more tips, it’s truly an amazing feeling.

After 1 year of working from home doing things on my own time and slowly building my website development and internet marketing business, I’ve decided to take a side step and return to the 9-5.

I hear you say WHY would he do that?

Let me start by saying that with 3 kids, the pressure to keep money flowing in is high, and working from home dealing with small business is not easy and has a lot of hurdles to jump through.

I still work for myself and love it that way, but had to start to move away from dealing with small business. Small business means small jobs which means lots more of them just to bring in a decent income. Chasing the occassional client for money is also not my favourite past time.

Instead I’ve turned my attention to taking on bigger corporate clients with bigger projects that last longer, and they have no problem paying me for the work that I do for them.

While I’m still trading my time for money I want to be earning as much as possible. The big trade off to this is that bigger corporate clients require me to work at their office, not mine.

My internet marketing business is still slowly bubbling along, but it’s taking a bit of a back seat, with me only spending about 1 hour per day on it including weekends. Not enough at all, but it’s better than doing nothing on it.

I anticipate that I’ll only be doing this 9-5 contracting until end of next year. This gives me my buffer of income my life requires while my internet marketing business is growing. There I’ve just publically set myself a goal. This goal has now set me in motion to carry it out.

I will be using this blog as I have been to record my journey, so that I can stay focused and look back in years to come at my achievements.

Aaron

I just read this excellent little story, that I just had to post since I picture myself as the donkey for sure…

Aaron

————

One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well.

The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway. It just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbours to come over and help him.

They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement he quieted down.

With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer’s neighbours continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

NOW …………

The donkey later came back, and bit the farmer who had tried to bury him. The gash from the bite got infected and the farmer eventually died in agony from septic shock.

MORAL FROM TODAY’S LESSON:

When you do something wrong, and try to cover your ass (pun intended), it always comes back to bite you.

Have a look at the copy of Think And Grow Rich that I inherited from my dad. It’s very old printed in 1960 and not in the best shape. But the book still readable after being kicked around for 46 years. When he gave it me I didn’t understand what I had been given, until I went to World Internet Summit, and saw Ted Ciuba speak about it. I have just started reading it again, basically it’s as if I’m reading it for the first time, it’s been so long. I also believe that my dad didn’t really understand it either. He is not entrepreneurial in any way and although he highlighted parts of the book, they are not the parts that I would have highlighted.

I have always been entrepreneurial ever since I was a boy, but I only came to embrace it when I was 21. I’m now 32 and have a goal to be financially independant by 35. How I have the entrepreneurial spirit in my veins is beyond me. My parents did a good job of trying to stop me from being this way, but it’s something that can’t be held back. I think my drive stems from not following in his work all your life even when you’re retired footsteps.

Enjoy

I’ve been working for the last 2 months on some software that will help webmasters and internet marketers in particular produce more sales and make their websites easier to develop.

I can’t believe how much work goes into making a product. This is why soooo many people just don’t do it.

As an example of my own. I desperately wanted to write an ebook with my wife for the Underachiever 30daychallenge in July last year. We got 1/2 way and never made it happen.

We surveyed and collated and got an angle on the book. We worked out in point form what should be covered. We even recorded some audio about it in an effort to get it off the ground. Never happened.

It’s still there so I will pick it up as my second product after I get through with this software as my first.

It truely is exciting to be finally moving towards a product launch.

I’ll elaborate on the project more as the launch moves closer, it’s very close now.

I’ve just done a complete re-install on my machine due to a motherboard going to computer heaven after a storm last month.

Needless to say I’m configuring Windows to the way I like it again, and Windows XP’s native ZIP support where it thinks ZIP files are folders really gets up my nose.

ZIP files are archives, and should be treated as such, not like folders. You notice the difference when you have lots of ZIP files in a folder, and Windows Explorer just chokes while it’s looking into all of them.

To disable this painfull feature of Windows XP do this (you’ll thank me later).

Start, Run, and type this “regsvr32 /u zipfldr” (without the quotes) and hit enter.

To enable them again (for whatever reason) Start, Run, and “regsvr32 zipfldr”

Of course this is assuming that you have a 3rd party ZIP program like, WinRAR or WinZIP

Enjoy
